While there is a broad spectrum of adoption related materials to read online, these are 5 of the best resources our team has found to be both comprehensive, accurate and relevant.
1. The National Council For Adoption
AdoptTogether & the National Council For Adoption have had a growing relationship the past few years, and we hold their work in high regard. The NCFA is “Passionately committed to the belief that every child deserves to thrive in a nurturing, permanent family, NCFA’s mission is to meet the diverse needs of children, birth parents, adopted individuals, adoptive families, and all those touched by adoption through global advocacy, education, research, legislative action, and collaboration.”
They have general resources about the full spectrum of adoption processes and highlight legislative changes to adoption policies & procedures. The NCFA also offers great tools for finding an adoption professional near you.
2. Adoption Learning Partners
Families will often use Adoption Learning Partners for required trainings prior to home study, but they can also be a valuable resource for families in the beginning stages of adoption who want to learn more.
3. Adoptive Families
Adoptive Families has one of the most comprehensive catalogs of adoption blogs, resources, step-by-step guides, and advice from adoption professionals on more topics than you can count. Truly a wealth of information on every imaginable topic. Many of their resources are free, but there is a large chunk of their site that requires a paid subscription.
4. The Center For Parent Information & Resources
This site is specifically for families wanting to know more about special needs, but offers a comprehensive list of resources and articles about issues affecting parents of children K-12.
5. Creating A Family
Creating a Family offers national adoption & infertility education as well as an abundant list of resources from adoption professionals seeking to provide truly unbiased, accurate information
Lastly, this didn’t make the top 5 but is still an great resource if you haven’t found what you’re looking for on our site or these top 5 online resources: http://adopting.org/
