Alejandro & Tanaya L.

are adopting a child from United States of America

Alejandro and I are excited to announce that we are adopting a baby!

When Alejandro and I met 8 years ago, we knew we were beginning a journey of a lifetime together. We spent our early years in the Boulder/Longmont, CO area and have many memories of hiking, cooking, and watching the British Bake-Off with our beloved pets. After the pandemic, we moved to New Mexico, fully intent on starting the next phase of our lives together through growing a family. We had always talked about growing our family through both biology and adoption. But at the time, we had no idea of the challenges ahead.

For three years, we struggled with 9 IUIs, 2 procedures, and the rollercoaster of hope, waiting, and inevitable heartache, which transformed into faith and strength. Infertility is rarely talked about, and yet it is something that impacts many people. No one talks about how broken you can feel when you find out ‘it didn’t take,’ the procedure was ‘unsuccessful,’ and you are not pregnant. This entire experience has tested us both as spouses, partners, and individuals, but it has strengthened our determination and faith in ways we never expected. We wholeheartedly believe that God has sent us on this path for many reasons.

When it comes to growing our family, we always envisioned adoption as one of our pathways to parenthood. After educating ourselves for over a year on adoption, trauma-informed care/parenting, and what adoptees and birth moms experienced, we are taking this next step to grow our family through adoption. We have worked with an awesome local agency that can provide us, the birth parent and their family, and the baby with support and resources. We have successfully completed our home study and multiple trainings to prepare us for the greatest gift we can receive - the gift of parenthood.

We are so happy to share that after three years on this journey, we are now in the matching phase—waiting to see which expectant mother might choose us to parent her child. This moment feels both exciting and surreal. We are incredibly grateful for everything we have learned along the way about adoption, and we remain committed to continuing to learn, grow, and offer support as we move forward.

Our path to growing our family has not looked the way we once imagined. Before pursuing adoption, we spent several years walking through infertility and fertility treatments, holding onto hope that one day we would become parents. That season required a deep emotional and financial investment, but it ultimately led us to adoption, a path that has filled us with renewed hope and purpose. We truly believe adoption is where we are meant to be. At the same time, adoption involves many necessary steps and significant costs. Preparing and certifying our home, working with an adoption agency, supporting an expectant mother, and completing the legal process for finalization are all essential parts of bringing a child home. Because of these expenses, we invite our community to join us on this journey. Your support—whether through prayer, encouragement, sharing our story, or a financial gift—helps make it possible for us to continue moving forward toward becoming parents.
