While dating and eventually marrying, we have often dreamt of becoming parents. We did not envision that this particular path, fraught with heartache and difficult emotional challenges, is what God had in store for us. When we made the decision for my wife to undergo a procedure to end her constant pain and suffering from fibroids and endometriosis, our adoption journey began.
The public adoption agencies in our area have waitlists with no foreseeable light at the end of the tunnel. Most recently, we were told by the public adoption agency that "we'll never get a young child in this circuit". Private adoptions are incredibly expensive, and while we are financially stable homeowners and settled into our mental health and law enforcement/corrections careers, we simply do not have the means to pay all of exorbitant upfront fees required to adopt children.
