The Blew family is thrilled to be in the process of adopting again!
Several months after bringing Sam home from China, our agency reached out to us about a specific child, "Mia". Mia has HIV and is closing in on her 14th birthday which would abruptly halt her chance of being adopted. HIV is a very manageable illness especially in America with easy access to life-saving antiretrovirals, but one in which many stigmas still pervade, notably in her home country. We've felt passionate about HIV+ adoption for many years and knew our family had the love, experience and resources to bring Mia into our family.
Soon after finding out about Mia, our son Sam, having recently joined our family from China 8 months prior, was diagnosed with Leukemia. He was diagnosed with a very acute and aggressive form of cancer and we needed to focus all of our energy on him so we put our plans to adopt again on hold. With several months of treatment under our belts and Sam in stable health with a good prognosis, we decided to pursue adopting Mia and officially matched with her in June of 2017.
We've spent the last 6 months traveling for Sam's cancer treatment, moving to Colorado Springs, learning our new city and chasing paper trails for the mounds of adoption paperwork required to bring our daughter home.
Unfortunately, Sam relapsed in January of 2018 and will undergo a bone marrow transplant this spring. His treatment requires a minimum of 100 days away from home and this will coincide with the timeframe we need to travel to China. The finances and logistics of both the adoption and the bone marrow transplant will require supernatural provision.
We ask that you would prayerfully partner with our family this year as we anticipate facing one of the most challenging years we've ever experienced. Our adoption expenses (including travel) are estimated to be around $40,000. We are overwhelmed by the your support and humbled that you would consider helping us bring our teenage daughter home this summer!
