In a time when the world felt like it was ending, one woman began a quest to give a child a loving home. And through this page, you can assist her on this mission.
My name is Kirstin, and I am a single woman in her early thirties looking to start a family. This is a decision I made when I was just a little girl. When I heard there were kids without families in the world, I promised myself that I would do what I could to fix that. I’d always hoped to adopt with a loving spouse at my side, but life doesn’t often work out the way we plan. So, I decided to chase this dream on my own, knowing that even one loving parent is better than none.
I grew up with two incredible, loving parents. When I was born, they were basically told “good luck; we hope she doesn’t die.” Why? Well, I was born with an incredibly rare skin condition called Epidermolytic Hyperkeratosis, but the doctors didn’t know that at the time. Basically, Epidermolytic Hyperkeratosis means that my skin grows super fast - we’re talking ten times faster than normal. It causes my skin to look differently, but it has been a great blessing in my life. My parents never treated me as broken or delicate; instead, they always encouraged me to do my best with whatever circumstances came my way.
I currently live in a cozy little neighborhood in a hundred-year-old home. The backyard is home to my aspiring rose garden and lots of room to play. There are lots of kids in the area, not to mention wonderful schools, which will help create a wonderful environment for a growing child. And I’m lucky to have an amazing network of family and friends who live nearby to help me raise Baby Bone.
I have two wonderful Chinese Crested dogs, Evie and Ender. They love to cuddle and nap, though playing outside is also a favorite adventure. They can’t wait to have another person to shower with love and affection!
This is Evie trying to help me with a work meeting. She had to make sure the postal worker wouldn’t somehow sneak up on us.
And this is Ender being a complete ham in the back yard. He’s a shy boy, but once he gets outside he loves to zooooooom.
I love to go on adventures and see the world. And I honestly can’t wait to share my favorite places with my baby. For example, New Zealand is an absolute favorite. My best friend and I went there in 2018 after planning the trip since we were ten.
Or visiting South Korea with my friends Aly and Skylar a couple of years before that.
Or even the trip I take with my parents basically every other year to our favorite place on Earth: Yellowstone. (I know, not the place you were expecting. Don’t worry, we love Disney too.)
Here’s my parents looking very cute in front of Steamboat Geyser a couple of years ago. Then down below you have a picture of me in Yellowstone from about a decade ago.
Sometimes I even go to fun places like Los Angels, Atlanta, or New York for the cultural experiences (after working to save money extra hard.) The point is, the world is full of amazing experiences that I can’t wait to share with my new family member.
In 2019, I completed a PhD in English, and I currently teach at a large university. Teaching is absolutely amazing. I get to help students from all kinds of backgrounds gain confidence in their writing and learn to think more critically about the world. But, unfortunately, teaching is not a well paid job. This means that finances are the Final Boss standing between me and my dream.
Adoption costs would take more than half my yearly income to achieve, and that’s not possible with expenses like a mortgage, bills, and student debt factoring into my financial situation. That is why I hope you can help me get started on this amazing path to help bring Baby Bone home.
In order to adopt, I will need to raise over $25,000 - probably closer to $35,000 - but I am going to do my best to get grants and fundraise in other ways to help meet that goal. These fees go towards:
Thank you so much for your help! Remember that your donation is tax-deductible, as long as you keep your receipt. If you do decide to donate, be sure to check if your employer will donation match! Every penny will be put directly towards adoption fees. And, if you would be so kind, please share this fundraiser so we can meet this goal together!
