In June of 2017 we started the process of adopting a child from India. We have been talking about this since our marriage counseling classes back in 2005. Rachael has had this yearning to help a child since she was a young girl. I (Caleb) remember a conversation I had with my mother when I was 10. She said "Isn't the best feeling in the world knowing that you are loved?" I remember that so vividly and it hit me like a ton of bricks. That IS the best feeling in the world. We are so fortunate for the lives we have, where we grew up, and the supporting family and friends we have. We are doing this so that at least one child will feel loved from God, from us, and our supporting family and friends. That is our motivation.
Initially we looked into foster care in Iowa as a way to adopt, but we felt led to adopt internationally. We are hoping to bring home a girl in the age range of 4-6 years old. The total cost of adoption is estimated to be around $40,000-$45,000. For those that don't know, those fees tend to come in waves. Recently, we had to switch organizations due to a sad circumstance and we find ourselves facing one of those waves we thought would come later in the process. It's really hard for us to ask people for money (pride issue). At the same time though, I know a lot of people who maybe aren't called to adopt an orphan, but would like to help someone who is. We are setting a goal to raise $20,000 towards the cost of the adoption. We sincerely appreciate any gift of any kind. Just know you are part of a plan that God has been weaving together for many years. We would also appreciate prayers as we continue moving forward with what we feel God has called us to do.
