Our story begins when we met while teaching at the same Christian school in Ohio. Little did we know how quickly our lives would change in such a short time. Within five years, we were married, had a major miscarriage and experienced severe medical challenges. Adoption became an unattainable dream then Bill found a pastoral position in a small church nestled in the foothills of northern California, a church supportive of orphan ministry and adoption. We are a family of six: two foster teens and we were matched at the end of August 2013 with a sibling pair from the eastern area of the DRC a girl, 4, and her brother, 3. The children have each celebrated a birthday and two Christmases and all of the other family holidays in the orphanage. They have had chicken pox and our son had malaria in February. We are excited and eager to bring them home but the mountains of paperwork, simply waiting on others to get to our paperwork, the current freeze on exit visas in the DRC and the ever mounting fees are the hurdles between looking at pictures and actually holding our children. We are hoping that they can get to come home, to our family, in 2015. The unfortunate fact is international adoption is difficult because of the cost. The final cost appears to be nearly $50,000. Over $25,000 has been spent and paid; we are grateful.
