As many of you know, Colleen and I are in the process of a domestic, open adoption. The journey, although tough, has been enlightening and profound for our marriage and the love that we possess for each other. We began this journey July 6, 2017 and after nearly 15 months, our optimism and faith continues to carry us forward. Through thought and prayer, we are extremely excited to become parents and as proud Jesuits and practicing Catholics who find God in all things, we know our match for an infant of any race or gender is near. As part of our adoption process, we have started a crowdfunding campaign. It may surprise you to hear that adoption related costs can easily total up to $50,000 or more. Fees include services for the adoption agency, medical and legal aid for the birth mother, legal fees for us, travel expenses, and state-mandated annual background checks, home studies, and psychotherapy. Furthermore, many do not know that the fees associated with adoption are prepaid in cash and NOTHING is guaranteed. We are 10 months into our two-year "match" contract and many potential costs are ahead of us. This is why we have set a goal of $35,000 to help ease the financial burden that has accompanied our adoption journey thus far.
