In 2019, just after directing a Christmas community event for underserved families, I was contacted by a homeless mother. She did not know me except for being the one to help her at the Christmas event. She was requesting for me to take her 3 wk old baby in order for her to return to work and she had no one to help her. I picked him up from the side of the road in front of ann abandoned home his mom was sleeping in. After picking him up it was evident that he had not received much care so, with permission, I took him to the doctor. He was diagnosed with failure to thrive. He was just over 5lb at a month old. I fed him every 2 hour, nurtured him and was intentional with bonding. After it was evident that the mother was not stable to take him back in her care we asked them to consider long term placement with us. Voluntarily the biological parents gave us sole permanent custody! At a year old he started having breathing issues and at 2 started being hospitalized. It was during one of his worst admissions that it became evident to us that had we not taken him in he very likely could have died if he were still homeless. He is truly such a free spirit with a wild soul! We are blessed beyond measure! I thank God for making his intentions for us so clear. He has been living with us for the past 4 years. It is our hearts desire to finalize his adoption in order for him to legally share our last name prior to starting kindergarten next year through a voluntary open adoption! Thank you for prayerfully considering donating to his next journey in life!
