To everything there is a season. We are expecting!
As many of you know, we have been on the road to adoption for several years. Before the lock down of 2020, we planned to adopt an older child locally. After we got pregnant with Zoey, our focus shifted to providing a sibling close in age which led us to explore international adoption. We decided on South Africa because of the warm, attentive, and quality care the children receive. South Africa is a beautiful country with so much to offer.
UNICEF predicts there are 153 million orphans in the world, and that number is growing. We view adoption as a moral calling. Peace and justice are taught at home, in families.
So, we are beyond excited to announce we are matched with a three year old baby girl, who we currently call 'Gitty.'
Gitty is described as a friendly, talkative, and engaging little girl. In March, we reviewed her file, several videos, and worked closely with our agency to determine that we are the right family for Gitty. We felt an instant bond and tirelessly completed a 3-5 month homestudy process in 6 weeks.
Gitty has never lived outside of institutional care, has never felt the consistent love of family, and never known permanency. She doesn't know the warm embrace of a mother, father, and sister. Though Gitty is healthy and strong, she has medical needs that will require ongoing therapy. The transition through adoption will inevitably make her feel vulnerable and alone. It will be the greatest challenge of her life. We can't imagine the emotions this baby girl will experience, but she will have our undying love and devotion.
We hope to raise $20K to off set adoption costs. Adoption requires the services of a lot of international professionals. It will cost us between $45k and $55k, without the additional therapeutic care that Gitty will require. Our goal is to host fundraising events and to write grants, but our efforts will only cover a fraction of the costs.
