In July 2016, we made the decision to pursue adoption. We prayed a very specific prayer, that God would send us a birth mom. In just over a week, we were put in contact with a pregnant woman who was contemplating making an adoption plan. The next few months were a blur, filled with highs and lows. Ultimately, the woman decided to raise her child, herself. In this specific situation—although it broke our heart–we were happy to know that the child got the best thing…to stay with his precious momma.
We took a little time off from actively pursuing adoption, to catch our breath. But now, we are doing everything we can to be prepared to welcome a beautiful new life into our home. As part of our adoption process, we have started a crowdfunding campaign. It may surprise you to hear that our adoption-related costs will easily total up to $30,000 or more. Adoption can be a costly venture with fees covering the cost of the adoption agencies, social workers, and attorneys working behind the scenes. These people serve both the birth parents who are in crisis pregnancies, as well as help the adoptive families navigate all the nuances of this complicated process. We have been very intentional about saving for over two years now, but we know we need help to reach the goal.
However, we feel the most important thing you can do to help our adoption is to pray; pray first and foremost for the birth parents (whoever they may be) that they will get the counsel and guidance they need. Pray that they have some peace of mind about their decision. Pray for safety and health of the mom and child during pregnancy. Finally, we'd appreciate your prayers. During this season of waiting, pray that we will fix our eyes on Jesus, instead of all the unknowns in this process. We are truly thankful for your prayers and support!
