Hi, we are Doug and Will, and we are grateful that you are taking the time to read our profile. We were matched with a birth-mother on 2/13/17 and were blessed to be present during the birth of our daughter on 6/20/17. We are overjoyed! Neither of us every thought it possible to have a family of our own, recognizing the obstacles that a same sex couple faces trying to start a family. Yet despite the challenges, deep in our hearts we each possess the desire and resolve required to provide a loving and supportive environment for a child. We have opened our arms with joy and love to a beautiful baby girl who needs a place to call home. In our careers, we both work with under-served and marginalized individuals, many of whom have experienced the world as an unsafe and less than tender place - from childhood to today. Although we do our best to provide support and healing to the individuals we work with in the professional sphere, we often wonder if their lives would have been different had they grown up in a stable and supportive environment. We are determined to provide our child with love, safety and support. From the time we met, almost 5 years ago, we have been working hard to align our lives in a way that will allow us to support a family. Shortly after getting married, we researched local adoption agencies and completed our home-study. Although it was a lengthy and intensive process, we appreciate the investigation into our lives to determine our fitness to parent. After a few months waiting to be chosen by a birth mother, we are now getting to know the hopes and dreams she has for the child, as well as supporting the very, very difficult decision that she is making. This is where you come in, and can help in a BIG way! Initial estimates suggested that the adoption process would cost between $35k - $45k. However, birth-mom support expenses, medical care, agency administration fees, travel to/from Texas for the birth, and legal fees have exceeded $62,000. Even with our thoughtful financial planning, we have borrowed extensively to cover this very worthwhile event. It is understandable, even with the best planning, that these costs start to feel staggering, and limiting. We hope, with your help, to make our adoption journey even more of a blessing.
