I have exciting news! I'm adopting a child with special needs from South Africa.
Motherhood has long been a desire, but as a single woman, I struggled to define what supporting a family would mean for me. Circumstances changed in November 2019 when I stumbled on Holt International's "waiting children" page and instantly connected with a child on their website. That child lives in China, and even though I worked diligently in 2019 and 2020 to fundraise and finish paperwork to bring him home, China has yet to resume adoptions following the pandemic. Geopolitical tensions have made that dream even more difficult.
This year, after speaking to adoption professionals and international political experts, I switched programs to adopt from South Africa. My completed dossier will remain in China in the event they resume adoption, but until then, doors have opened in South Africa to continue my journey to parenthood. This decision has taken heavy soul searching, prayer, and self-evaluation, but I am so thankful that I've been set on this journey! I am also grateful for the network of family, friends, and colleagues who have gone out of their way to lend support as I take this step to grow my family.
I have started this crowdfunding campaign to help raise the funds needed to adopt from South Africa. The adoption trip is currently estimated to be 10-12 weeks in country, which is a significant cost, particularly for a single income household. This is why I have set a goal of $5,000 to help ease the financial burden that seems overwhelming for the next payment and trip overseas. Would you consider helping me fund the adoption process?
