We have big news…we are adopting not 1 but 2 (maybe 3) children from Haiti!
For years, Greg and I have felt that we would adopt at some point in the future. I had actually had dreams/nightmares about adopting that I had not even shared with Greg. I was not sure that I could do it…even though I knew that I wanted to.
Last fall when Hurricane Matthew hit, Greg was listening to the radio and hearing about the utter devastation in Haiti. He said by the time he got to his work, he felt God telling him that we needed to adopt not 1 but 2 (maybe 3) children from Haiti. I was speechless!
After much discussion, prayer and some very clear signs from God (I'll share more about that later) we have begun the process to adopt. We are currently finishing up the home study process and are about to begin preparing our dossier. This is a fancy name for the paperwork that goes to Haiti to let them know we are wanting to adopt.
About those clear signs…OBEDIENT! That was the one word that kept coming up! You must be obedient! I had friends say it out of the blue. Every Bible lesson I read was about obedience. Every time I turned around, I was told to be obedient, even if I didn't think I was ready! Greg felt the call was now and I couldn't do anything but be obedient to what God was telling us to do! So, here we are, deep in the process of adopting 2 children from Haiti.
The wait times to adopt from Haiti can be very long…up to 3 years to get matched with children. That being said, we have to come up with the money for the dossier and then we will have a while to wait, save some money and fund raise some more!
The cost to adopt a child from Haiti is about $32,000 for 1 child. That number could double for 2! Our goal is to raise $20,000. That is a LOT of money but, we feel that God will provide!
This is where you come in…we need your help to raise this sizable amount of money! We will be doing all sorts of fundraisers but, this is one way for you to give a tax deductible contribution of cash!
We hope to get our dossier submitted as soon as possible so that the long wait can begin! We aren't looking forward to this long wait for a child but, we are looking forward to see what God is going to do.
