We are adopting a child!
We are beyond excited and are doing everything we can to be prepared to welcome a beautiful new life into our home. As part of our adoption process, we have started a crowdfunding campaign. It may surprise you to hear that the average cost of adoption in the U.S. is $40,000. This is why we have set a goal of $25,000.00 to help ease the financial burden that often overwhelms adoptive parents.
We hope that by inviting you into this process, you will see yourself as part of the community we hope to build around our child as he/she grows up.
Adoption has been written on my heart for a very long time. I remember listening to peers growing up who talked about their flimsy views of life and abortion and it bothered me to my core. I have a vivid memory, I could point to the exact place I was sitting in Dairy Queen still..we had all gone out for ice cream after a school event and my peers were talking about abortion. I remember telling them that if they ever had a child they were unable to parent that I would happily take responsibility for the child.
We believe God uses these moments to give our lives direction. Fast forward to college, I researched and researched adoption. Then Matt came into my life and God began knitting our hearts together and sharing in this vision. In 2011 we had the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Costa Rica. During this trip we went to an orphanage. Dona Melba was the woman’s name who ran the orphanage. The mother figure in the home. Dona Melba saw a need for somewhere these kiddos could live and started bringing them in to her own house. We spent time loving on these kids and playing with them. This was a solidifying moment for Matt and I. We knew for certain this was the direction we wanted our lives to take.
