is adopting a child from Korea (Republic of)
Did you know there are 153 million orphans worldwide?
We invite you to join us in making that number one less as we pursue adopting a child from South Korea.
This is a faith stretching experience that requires patience, vulnerability, leaving our biological children for a time and many resources. Thankfully, God does not leave us to our own fears and doubts. He faithfully draws our weak flesh to Himself and provides us with His word where we plainly see His faithfulness and provision for many. In Genesis 6 Noah builds an ark, having little experience with precipitation. Israel is found staring at the Red Sea with no way to cross and the Egyptians are quickly approaching, we watch in amazement as God parts the water and defends his people. Or consider Christ who left His position of splendor to die for a sinner like me, defeating death itself on the third day. Or consider how the resurrection of Christ opens the path to adoption into His own family.
As believers in Christ we are called to love and care for the fatherless. For some this means adopting a child, for some foster care, for some it may look like financially supporting children overseas, for others buying a winter coat for an underprivileged child, no matter how it is played out followers of Christ are all called to “Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.” (Psalm 82:3)
“Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?” (James 2:15-6)
Kelcie and I have often found verses like those above to be clear mandates for life. While we were dating, through much conversation and some different experiences Kelcie and I found we shared a heart for the orphan. We actually very naively discussed adopting a child from each continent as a means of sharing the gospel to the ends of the earth. Over the last year in particular God has been working within our hearts to step forward in this process.
The Lord has begun to clear a path for adoption from South Korea and we are walking by faith as we wait on His perfect timing. We don’t know exactly how fast or slow the process will take, but the current estimates are between 18 and 30 months. We will trust the Lord as we wait; to bring us the child that He sees fit.
We request your prayers through this entire process as it is expected to have challenges along the way. As you may be aware either by your own research or hearsay adoption is expensive. Let me confirm that indeed it is not cheap but we feel it is a worthwhile endeavor. Would you consider financially supporting us in the process? We know many give generously to causes around the world, this is an opportunity to see those dollars at work in close proximity.
Thank you for your prayers, your support, and your love. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out. We will try to provide updates throughout the process.
As followers of Jesus “WE ARE” Brad and Kelcie Gibbs and God willing expanding our family from 6 to 7.
