Leonie Goertzen

is adopting a child from China

For some time, we have been working toward adopting another child from China. Our focus has primarily been on bringing home a little sister for Luke. However, God often has different plans. "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord." (Isaiah 55:8 NIV). We are aware of this based on past experience, but it never ceases to amaze how clearly He can communicate this when the time comes.

Today, we are sharing with family, friends, and perhaps a number of thus far un-met friends that we feel compelled that God wants us to adopt "Flint," a boy who will be aging out of the adoption system in January. He is an exceptional individual whom Leonie had the pleasure of meeting in November while she was in China as a volunteer Occupational Therapist. He wants to have a family of his own, and we are uniquely positioned to be the type of supportive family that he needs.

Because of the expedited nature this adoption requires in order for it to take place, we have had to abandon other service oriented fundraising activities that we were planning, and place our trust in this crowdfunding campaign. "Why," you may ask, "do they engage in fundraisers to help accomplish what they feel God is asking them to do?" It's a good question, and our answer is this: A big, expensive, life altering event like adoption requires a high level of trust, and its success requires an active, supportive community around that family. Adoption related costs easily total up to and beyond $40,000 USD, which can be an overwhelming financial burden for prospective adoptive parents.

We are excited to have "Flint" join our family in mid-January, and we are inviting you to assist in making this happen. It is our hope that this invitation may help you to feel like part of the community we hope to build around this boy. To this end, we have set a goal of $20,000 for this campaign.
