Greetings! We are the Heckerts: Ryan, Sara, Layna (9) and Luke (7). We are very excited about growing our family through adoption! With Ryan’s work in the disability field and Sara’s family history of family members with disabilities, plus her professional experience, we feel God has perfectly placed us together to raise a child (or children!) with special needs. We have a wonderful network of support from family and friends who have already travelled the adoption road. We are pursuing the domestic adoption of an infant with Down syndrome in 2015! We are also open to adopting a sibling group if God moves us in that direction. Our home study was completed in 2014 by Christian Children’s Home of Ohio and we are approved to adopt up to 4 children. We have currently placed ourselves on an inactive waiting list with the National Down Syndrome Adoption Network based out of Cincinnati, Ohio. This is a non-profit agency that provides information to birth families who are seeking alternatives to parenting as they prepare for the arrival of their child. Once we are chosen by birth parents, we will work with their adoption agency to complete the process. We were excited to learn recently that it is very likely that we will be able to be present for the birth of our child! Most Down syndrome adoption plans are made prenatally. We are gathering funds to cover the cost of the adoption process so that when we move to the NDSAN’s active waiting list registry in the spring of 2015, we have all the funds that we need, ready-to-go!
