Building a Forever Home for Two: A Teacher’s Journey to Adoption I am thrilled to share that I have officially reached Stage 2 of the UK adoption process! This has been a journey of hard work and dedication including the massive milestone of finally purchasing my own home to provide the stability a family needs.
The Vision
My heart is set on adopting two “harder-to-place” children. These are the children who often wait the longest in the system: older children, sibling groups, or those with additional needs. Having spent my career as a Science teacher, I know how much potential these children have when they are given a safe, nurturing environment.
The Challenge
To make this dream a reality, I’ve faced a “perfect storm” of requirements. My agency rightly requires me to take a full year of adoption leave to help the children bond and settle. However, as a teacher, my adoption pay is minimal. While I am working a second job in retail to bridge the gap, the high interest on the debt from my recent home move is slowing me down.
Why I Need Your Help
At 47, I feel a deep sense of urgency. I have the home, the heart, and the professional experience to parent these children, but I need to clear the final financial hurdles before the “matching” begins. Your support will go directly toward:
Safety First: Renovating the garden and preparing a shared bedroom to meet strict safety standards.
The Bonding Year: Creating a financial buffer so I can focus entirely on the children during that vital first year of leave.
A Clean Slate: Clearing the move related debt so all my resources can go toward the children’s future, not past interest.
It breaks my heart that these children who are already waiting in long-term foster care could be delayed in coming home simply because of the costs of preparing that home. I have been financially sensible all my life, and asking for help isn’t easy, but I am doing it for them.
A Note on Location: I am based in the UK. Due to platform settings, I had to select a US state (Florida), but I am proudly adopting within the British care system.
Thank you for being part of my “village.
