Laura Holt

is adopting a child from United States of America

Boy oh boy…it has been a journey!

The story that God has written has been one filled with twists and turns, ups and downs and tons of learning curves. While some have been anticipated, others have left us leaning on Him in more ways than we could have ever hoped for.

Adoption has been on our hearts for as long as we can remember. We began pursuing this dream in 2018 after being told we could not pursue biological children because of the medication I was on for M.S. This was such encouraging news to us that adoption was truly God's plan for our family.

We began the paperwork process quickly (those are adoptions "labor pains" - WOWZERS!!) in 2018 and found ourselves actively seeing cases in Feb of 2019. Then, God decided to show us his sense of humor…

After having an MRI, our neurologist told us he felt comfortable with me getting off of medication for 6 months to try for a biological child. We were thrilled! This is where we tend to get some confused looks….why would we continue to adopt if we knew we were pregnant???? Do you know that you'll have two infants??? (We understand those questions more now that we have a one-month old… bye, bye, sleep! :) ) Our discussion as a couple after receiving the exciting news that we could try to get pregnant was:

  1. You don't know if you'll be able to conceive a biological child

AND

  1. You don't know if you'll match with a birth mother

AND

  1. Adoption is a calling, not just a choice - it never felt right to stop this venture!

Many of you know how the story continued. We were blessed to conceive very quickly and VERY quickly after receiving that news, we were matched with a birth mother as well. It felt like pure BLISS! However, this initial match ended with heartache for us as the birth mother delivered a baby girl (who we named Hope) at 26 weeks and then made the decision to parent. While we were devastated by this failed match, we grew in our confidence that adoption was God's plan for us. We were constantly encouraged and reminded that "it's not a 'NO'…it's a 'NOT YET' "

Well, here we sit, matched for 4 months with another birth mother who is due in one month with a sweet baby boy. Our biological baby boy, Blake, and his younger brother will be exactly 2 months apart.

While we have walked through this new match carefully and slightly guarded, we have not walked this path in fear. God has lead us to our new birth mother and future child. I felt God calling us to be obedient – to step out financially – to step out emotionally – to let go of control and let him drive for a bit. It has been a beautiful, difficult, emotional, scary road. But the journey to this point has been one that has helped us grow in our faith and in our marriage. We have been challenged and so, so sad. We've also been excited and so, so grateful.

Within the next few weeks, Blake, Davis and I will pack up and travel to Florida to welcome our sweet baby boy. Adoption is a challenge emotionally, spiritually and financially. Any donations given through this site will go towards final adoption expenses related to travel, stay, food and other necessities while we are in Florida. We anticipate being in Florida for anywhere from 10-30 days while we wait for approval to come back home.

We cannot wait to update everyone as we continue the journey God has lead us on.

We are incredibly blessed.
