We have been on a journey to start our family for nearly five years. First we tried the old fashioned way with no luck then we turned to fertility treatments. After four years of fertility tests, surgeries and services, we attempted one cycle of in vitro fertilization (IVF), again with no luck. We had always discussed adoption as part of our parenting plan, but we weren't sure when. Now is when. International adoption interests us as we want to provide a stable, loving, enriching home to a child who does not currently have that opportunity. We have been approved for adoption of a child with medical needs, if he or she has them. Currently, we are waiting for US Immigration to process our request to adopt a child internationally. Once we have this approval, we will be sending a packet to the Republic of Georgia for them to review. After a committee there decides we may adopt from Georgia, we will be sent a child referral. We get to travel once a mutual match has been made. To date, we have paid about a third of our total expenses and anticipate having about $25,000 left to pay for fees, travel expenses, medical expenses for consultations prior to travel, while in Georgia and again when we return.
