We have 6 children and are in the process of adopting a baby from Eastern Europe!
Many people ask why we want to adopt internationally. When we learned that there are about 90,000 orphans in orphanages, we felt like this was where we should adopt from. Some children in orphanages are truly orphaned (their biological parents have passed away), others are abandoned by their biological parents due to special needs or taken away from biological parents due to neglect or substance abuse. Unfortunately, all of these factors are very common there.
Our first adoption cost about $40,000 and took 8 months from start to finish. We expect this one to be slightly less- about $35,000, with saving a little bit by only having to update our home study and not having to pay a new Immigration application fee. However, with this savings, we will not have as much time to save and fundraise for this adoption.
