Jaime
is adopting a child from South Africa
Family and Friends,
This is some BIG news!
I am adopting a child!
I have to admit I was hesitant to make this public. This is a long, tedious journey that is full of ups and downs.
Adoption is a very real and personal thing in my life. As many of you know, I chose adoption in my early twenties for a baby boy. He is thriving and full of life with his forever family. I don’t regret the decision and believe God used it all for His glory. My sister is adopted and is my very best friend. I have been the birth mom and I have been in a family that has been blessed with welcoming a member through the adoption process.
God means for all people to be adopted into His family through the acceptance of Jesus. I believe full heartedly there is a calling to care for the orphans of the world and feel that God is calling me to answer that for my own family.
As a single mom, I have made sacrifices and continue to make sacrifices to care for my daughter and now to welcome home another new life into our home!
FAQ:
1.) Why adopt from South Africa?
There a number of reasons why I feel led to this particular country. I was always under the impression that South Africa had it all together and there was not an orphan concern within the country. I was very wrong! There are currently estimated to be between 3.7-4 million orphans in South Africa! That number is heartbreaking. Also, as a single woman, I am limited on where I am able to adopt. There is a need in this country and I am legally allowed to pursue adoption. Sign me up!
2.) What does it cost?
Excellent question! Currently, the cost to adopt from South Africa is roughly $23,000. This includes a multitude of fees. I do want to note that any donation made through this platform is tax deductible!
3.) Are you sure you want to do this? You’re already a single mom.
I am positive! I am not naive to think this will be easy and the timeline may not be exactly what I have in mind. God knows what He is doing and I’ll be faithful in following Him wherever that may lead-even to be a single mom of two awesome kiddos!
4.) I can’t give right now. What are some other ways I can help?
Please pray for us! You can also spread the word through social media, friend groups, or your church. It takes a village!
5.) What now? Where are you in the process?
Currently I am in the planning, saving, and organizing funds stage. I am not able to start the formal process until my daughter is a little over 2 years old. South Africa requires the youngest child to be at least 3 at the time of paperwork being completed and sent to them.
I am beyond excited and doing everything I can to be prepared to welcome a beautiful new life into our home. As part of the adoption process, I have started a crowdfunding campaign. It may surprise you to hear that adoption related costs can easily total up to $35,000 or more. This is why I have set a goal of $7,000 to help ease the financial burden that often overwhelms adoptive parents.
I hope that by inviting you into this process, you will see yourself as part of the community we hope to build around our child as he/she grows up.
