Family and Friends, Many of you know that we have been hoping and planning to adopt a child into our family for over ten years now. Each year we’ve revisited, researched more, filled out applications, gone through background checks, and waited for time when our desire met with the right need. And here we are! There is no doubt that God has written our family’s story to date and we trust His plans and purposes now as it continues to unfold. Through a series of steps, connections, and divine timing (mostly divine timing), last week we were matched with a baby boy through domestic infant adoption due September 20th! This little guy will be born in Florida and within in a network of agencies and men and women who love to support and encourage adoption. We have been loved and sought out with offers of housing, food, and support for our stay! Over the years we have prioritized the financial demands of adopting in expectation of the day coming. Each adoption is different and fees vary based on state regulations, travel, court processing requirements of the county, and all of the infinitely valuable counseling and resources made available to the birth mom. In this circumstance, we’ll be paying approximately $33,500 to Building Families Adoption Agency and Lutheran Family Services to cover all of the pre-birth care for mom, regular meetings and accountability to make sure that she gets pre-natal care, counseling, support, and a legally regulated amount of financial support for healthy food and her basic needs during pregnancy. This also pays for all the court fees, documentation, background checks, interstate paperwork, home study, and on and on. We’re thankful to find an agency with set fees, where we won’t have unexpected and additional, unpredictable bills coming for months and months. To date we’ve already paid for the home study and we have saved $27,000. It is our hope to raise the remaining $6,500 before we fly to Florida just before the 20th to wait for this little boy to arrive. Thankfully a good portion of our travel expenses are already eliminated by the family that has offered to host us and the members of their community planning to feed us!
