For as long as we can remember Eddy and I have wanted to be parents. When we met, it was a major bonus that we were both so family oriented. After getting married we set out to make our family dreams come true. We had long conversations about possible baby names, whether we want a boy or a girl (we would love either!), and just generally dreaming about our future family. Unfortunately we were unable to get pregnant naturally and we were referred to a specialist. The specialist recommended IVF as our best course for having a baby.
We began the many, many tests and procedures that are required before even starting egg retrieval. Unfortunately during one such test, the doctor discovered what they thought was a polyp in my uterus. I had it surgically removed and unfortunately it turned out to be uterine cancer. The recommended treatment was a total hysterectomy with removal of my uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and cervix. Thankfully the IVF doctor was able to fast track an egg retrieval and we were able to freeze four eggs.
We had taken out a loan to pay for IVF and had used about 1/3rd of it at that point. We began to research surrogacy and found that it was well over three times what we were quoted for IVF alone. We did not have enough money and would never have enough to pay a surrogate.
So we turned to adoption. We are close to the end of our home study process and will hopefully soon be ready for birth parents to view our profile. From the loan we took out for IVF, we have a little over half of what we will need for adoption. We are hoping there are people out there who have the compassion and generosity to help us make our dreams of building our family come true.
