We have some exciting news–we are adopting a child!
We discussed the possibility of one day adopting even before we were married, and the idea has only grown more prominent in our minds and hearts with time. Our struggles so far with infertility have made the prospect of adoption even more appealing, and we believe this may be the path God wants us to take. After much prayer and reflection, we have come to the decision to begin the adoption journey.
We want to help a child in need by providing a stable and loving home, and we wish to build a family that can belong to Our Lord. As Catholics, we believe that God has adopted us through Jesus Christ. We believe that He also calls certain families to imitate His love in this way, by caring for those who cannot care for themselves, those in need. We wish to respond to this calling if it is God's will.
The adoption journey is a long one with many uncertainties and challenges. We can't guarantee that everything will go according to plan, that we will receive a placement and be able to take a child into our arms, but we are going to do all in our power to achieve that end.
The challenges of adoption include financial hurdles. Adoption related costs can easily total up to $40,000 or more. We are working hard to make and save money, apply for grants, and fundraise through many different avenues in order to be financially prepared. As part of that effort, we are launching this crowdfunding campaign for those who, in their generosity, are willing to share some of their resources with us so that we can share our love with a child.
We hope that by inviting you into this process through prayer and/or a financial gift (both of which are deeply valuable to us), you will experience the joy of being a part of the miracle of adoption. We deeply desire that you will be a part of the community that our child grows up loving and being loved by and making memories with. You mean so much to us and we are profoundly grateful for your support, whatever form it may take.
Thank you and may God bless you abundantly,
The Larsons
Most of you now know our exciting news and the way that God has answered our prayers regarding children, though not in the way we expected. Brooke is currently 13 weeks pregnant! We got pregnant shortly after we began our adoption process. God's timing is mysterious but wonderful.
The result is that we have had to rethink a lot of things. Odds of a successful adoption go way down in a situation like this because most birth mothers don't want to place their child with a family that already has an infant. In fact, our agency won't even sign a contract with us until after the pregnancy, and, even then, our odds of being able to adopt could drop by as much as 80%.
For this reason, we are having to put our adoption plans on hold for now while we turn our attention to this pregnancy. We still have interest in adoption and may well pursue it again at a future time, but it is not practical for us to do so right now, and we don't know exactly if or when we may be able to resume.
To make sure that the donations we received are still used for their intended purpose, we are passing along the donations to another Catholic couple we know who is beginning an adoption. If you would like more information about this couple, please message us.
Finally, we want to add that we are beyond grateful for all of the support that has been shown to us. We simply can't thank you enough. May God abundantly reward you for your generosity.
Sincerely,
Walker and Brooke
