Our adoption journey started three years ago when our church held a series centered around the question, “What Breaks Your Heart?" For the first time, we started seriously discussing and praying through that question. For us, our answers varied slightly, but at the heart of it we knew that unprotected, unloved, and under-privileged children absolutely break our hearts. So the question became, what do we do?
Initially God led us to pursue an international adoption from Colombia, but after two years that door has been closed and we are now walking with Him toward a domestic infant adoption. It was heartbreaking to get to that decision, but we feel confident that it is truly the right one for our family.
We are so grateful to have all the love and encouragement from our family and friends as we change course. If you are interested in supporting us through this, we have a couple needs at this time:
The first is prayer. Prayers for patience, and for God to prepare our hearts and our home for our future child. We would also ask you to pray for our child's first family. All adoption stems from loss, and for us to gain a child, the birth mom will have to make the courageous choice and sacrifice to terminate her rights.
The second is financially. Adoption is expensive. Domestic adoption fees vary, but tend to cost around $50,000. This includes home-study fees, our Social Worker’s time and expertise, agency fees, the expectant mom's medical expenses, legal fees, and a whole host of other items that go into matching our child with our family and bringing them home. We would love for you to partner with us in this way, but please do not feel obligated. We know you love us .. you wouldn’t have read this far down our page if you didn’t :)
Thank you for sharing in our story! We cannot wait to meet the child God has already selected for our family.
