is adopting a child from Jamaica

Hi, I’m Lisa. I’m adopting Ricardo, a 13 year old Jamaican boy. He and his mom struggled with homelessness and hunger and all the things that go along with that. She asked me to adopt him because she wanted to bring his struggles to an end. It’s been a long, arduous, uphill journey. We’re four years in and counting: two governments, twice the bureaucracy, twice the expense.

The obstacles have been vast and varied: temporal, emotional, social, educational, legal, financial, even spiritual. And those all paled in comparison to the sudden death of his mom which left Ricardo totally bereft, brought the adoption proceedings to a violent halt, and catapulted us into brand new levels of emotional, social, educational, legal, financial, spiritual and bureaucratic distress. But we are determined to see this thing through.

I am committed to bringing Ricardo to safety like I promised his mother I would. He is committed to trusting me to do so. We’ve already slain most of our giants. In fact, our only remaining giant is financial. I provide for Ricardo, so he is no longer hungry or outdoors. He has made emotional, social, and educational gains. I’ve tackled most of the legal and governmental matters, but I can’t bring him home because I don’t yet have the funds needed to finalize the adoption.

Things have improved for Ricardo, but he still needs a permanent home and family. He needs to be with me. Please help me to slay this last giant so I can bring Ricardo home.
