Our journey to adoption started long before we ever met. Adison had his first close experience with adoption when his sister adopted two girls from China. Tori’s mom was adopted as a teenager by her stepfather. In addition, Tori regularly babysat a boy who was in foster care while she was a teenager. We were both deeply touched by our experiences.
As we dated, we discussed adoption a lot as a way to expand our family in the future. After we got married, we thought we would try for a biological child first. Unfortunately, there were many bumps along the way. We faced infertility, many specialists, lots of fertility treatments, and even miscarriage. Throughout all that, adoption was still ever-present in our minds. We prayed fervently to try and heal from the heartbreak we were facing. We felt God was calling us to be parents yet it was so difficult and we desperately wanted the opportunity to have a child.
The pull to adopt became stronger the more we prayed. November of 2017 we started truly listening to God and our hearts and research began into what venue was best for us. Throughout all our research we prayed that God would lead us where there was need and where we can truly make a difference. India kept coming up. We found that roughly half of the entire world orphan population exists in India alone. We knew this was the path we wanted to pursue. We are so thankful for adoption. It was never a second choice to us, we always wanted to pursue it, we just didn’t know when God would open that door. That time is now! We feel so excited to be on this journey, and we cannot wait to look into the face of our precious baby.
