Adoption is hard.
We’ve been on this journey for almost three years and we’ve seen and experienced heartbreak. In 2022 we matched with a beautiful single mom who asked us to attend her birth. We spent August in Louisiana waiting for our son to be born. We attended the delivery, even cut the umbilical cord. But our birth mom decided to parent and left the hospital with the baby.
We were devastated, but in a way proud of this brave single mother. Fast forward a year and we’re still in contact with her! We have a great relationship and speak via FaceTime weekly. Nathan and I think maybe God put her in our path so we can appreciate who God calls, “the fatherless and widowed”
In 2023 we decided to not renew our adoption paperwork, thinking maybe our experience in Louisiana was supposed to be our story. March 2024 is our deadline for renewal - we were close to stepping away. Then we got a call in early 2024. There was a an expectant mama who wanted to meet and talk to us. After some emails and phone calls she chose us! Only a few weeks from our deadline, we were matched again.
We’re filled with excitement, but also a lot of fear. Our experience in 2022 weighs heavy on our emotions, and the financial burden of a failed adoption (which cost more than $20,000) coupled with the new expenses (an additional $36,000+/-) for this adoption looms over our heads. We’re not backing down because we believe adoption is a beautiful and redemptive thing, close to the heart of God. But we need your help. We raised money and saved like crazy to afford an adoption but that money was eaten up in Louisiana and now we’re scrambling to cover the costs for this adoption.
We know God will provide, He’s not worried. And we’re grateful to be the loving, stable, forever home for this little girl.
It’s scary, but we’re excited.
Thanks for your support. Through your gift, you are part of this story.
