Drew and Tami Namminga
are adopting a child from Hong Kong
Early in 2020, we started the process to adopt for a second time with anticipation and expectations that it would work as smoothly and quickly as when we adopted Andi. We were quickly matched with a sweet little girl from China, a few months younger than Andi. We completed our home study and sent our dossier to China; then waited. One year turned to two, then to three, and recently we heard the news that China does not plan to move forward with anymore international adoptions, even those who were matched and waiting. Although heartbreaking for us, we still hope. There is a group working with China advocating for the completion of the in-process adoptions.
Although we have not given up hope for our little girl in China, while waiting we were introduced to the idea of adopting from Hong Kong. In August we were matched with an 8 year old girl. Our home study is complete and we are waiting on USCIS to finish reviewing our home-study and then we can send our dossier to Hong Kong. We recently learned of a family that was able to travel to Hong Kong within a year of starting the process. Our prayer is travel to Hong Kong some time in 2025!
As part of our adoption process, we have started a crowdfunding campaign, because, as it may surprise you to hear, adoption related costs can easily total up to $35,000 or more. We would love for you to join us in this process and beyond, as our family grows.

Tickets Booked
November 23, 2025Our trip to Hong Kong is booked and, Lord-willing, we will be home for Christmas as a family of 7! For almost 6 years we have been praying and preparing for this. It was a long road with some unexpected delays (Covid), turns and disappointments but God kept telling us to wait. It is hard to believe that now it is time to travel. God is so good!

Update 1
Official Referral
July 10, 2025We got a phone call on July 3 from our agency saying that Hong Kong has officially approved our paperwork and matched us with our new daughter! We are now submitting our I-800 packet (immigration paperwork) to the United States government to get approval to bring her home. While we don't have a travel date yet, our agency expects us to travel in about 5 MONTHS!
