Single Mom of a recently adopted teenager
Why Adoption, why now?
My life has always been full of joy from children in my proverbial village. Later in life, I served as a Foster Mom and Child Advocate for over 31+ children. It was during this time that I felt that I was called to do more, be more. I started my adoption journey because I had a close-up view of the needs of children.
I decided to close my home to fostering after three years and take a reprieve. But the desire to adopt never left my system. Renewed, I decided to get a home study done and it went from there. While “my” plans would have had me with a newborn girl, God had the best plan for me, a sprouting adolescent 12 y/o boy, Samuel, who is now 13. #BoyMom Yes, my son was rehomed, and had been a waiting child for nearly 3 years.
Since welcoming Samuel into my life, I believe that I have been enriched with a love that’s completely indescribable. It is my hope that this grant will be approved to assist me with setting a sound foundation for my son.
As we approached the holiday season of 2022, my executive job was eliminated weeks after finalization my adoption (of my teenage son) as a part of the Technology layoffs. While it was never my intention to be a single and unemployed mom, here I am. I paid all adoption costs, travel expenses, and legal fees out of pocket. While I am hoping that you will assist me with funding, please know that with the holiday season behind us, I am aggressively searching for my next job and with these perilous times, I am cautiously optimistic that I will find something soon.
Thank you for your consideration. Should you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know!
