We've been matched and we are adopting again!
A few weeks ago, our social worker approached us with a potential adoption from an agency. As we looked over the details, we felt drawn to the opportunity and submitted ourselves for consideration. Talking with this incredible expectant mother, we not only felt a bond but also a trust and an openness in our shared goals for this little boy: we all want to navigate an open adoption, build strong birth family relationships, and even work together to find the perfect name. In what was a wonderful moment, she asked us to be his parents. We are beyond excited and are doing everything we can to be prepared to welcome a beautiful little life into our home.
Throughout the last ten years together, we have continually set aside money for fertility treatments and the continual costs that are attached to adoption. In fact, last year we spent $20,000 in IVF costs alone. Agency fees for this adoption will total $39,000–$22,000 for the match fee and $17,000 for the placement fee. Fees for adoption through a licensed and accredited agency cover legal costs, social workers, paperwork, counseling services for the birth mother, and the birth mother’s post-pregnancy needs.
