After years of prayer, the Lord is fulfilling what He promised for our family and we're adopting!
It's been a long journey and for the last year, we've been pursuing adoption through an agency to foster-to-adopt. In mid-November, the Lord revealed a new path He had for us. We found out that our agency, based out of Temecula, was no longer servicing our area and we were going to need to look for a new agency to facilitate the process. The news was a bit discouraging, but we trusted God had a different path.
The very next morning, we received a text from a friend, asking for an adoption update, how things were going and where we were in the process. I gave her the brief update, that we were essentially back at square one, and she let me know about a birth mom in Florida who was looking for a family to adopt her child.
Knowing hardly anything about private adoption, we took the next few days to talk, process and pray about it together. We both sensed the Lord was wanting to "do a new thing!" - Isaiah 43:19 (a verse the Lord had given Holly a couple of months prior) so we made a couple of phone calls, finding out what the next step would be.
The timing of phone calls and meetings already in place was so undeniably divine, and later that week, we sent over our family profile to present to the birth mom. We found out that she was praying about our family and a few others over the next few weeks, and then we received a phone call on December 17 stating she has chosen our family to raise her perfect, healthy baby boy! He is due at the end of May – just 5 short months away!
So, here we are! While a private adoption looks night and day different than the fostering path, we know without a shadow of doubt that this is exactly where God is leading, and so we trust in Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20).
It's humbling to be in a situation asking for help, but we strongly believe that God places you in a spot where you are not enough, so that He can show that He is. God is our provider, adoption is His heart, and He moves heaven and earth to put the lonely in families.
In addition to raising funds on this platform, we're also planning a large community garage sale, having t-shirts made for a fundraiser and are brainstorming a few other ideas as well.
Far above any donation that can be made, we covet your prayers. Prayers for a healthy pregnancy for both mom and baby, prayers for this process and all that needs to be done on our end, and above all, that God would get every ounce of glory that He deserves in this process.
We've had a few people ask (and rightfully so), why does it cost so much money? Here's a quick overview..
- Nearly half of what we need goes toward legal and processing fees and our attorney in Florida.
- Home study costs, required by law in order to adopt.
- We cover living expenses for the birth mom for the duration of her pregnancy.
- Birth mom's medical expenses.
- Travel expenses for our trip to Florida.
