Our journey to adopting a child from the Congo, Africa started three years ago. At that time my wife and I decided we wanted to expand our family and also help another child in need. We decided to try domestic adoption. After waiting about a year for a placement, we switched gears and chose to enter the foster care system in hopes that a possible adoption might result. We were so delighted to have two children placed with us. They spent a year with us before returning to their birth mother. My wife and I were happy to have helped out the family, but were very sad to have lost out on making the two children permanent members of our family. We didn't feel we could keep bringing children into our home and then sending them back out to their parents, it would just be too hard on our hearts. After a careful amount of research and consideration, we decided to adopt internationally. It was a fairly easy decision to make, however the huge amount of money that it takes to adopt a child from the Congo, greatly worried us. In the end our family decided to follow our hearts instead of putting a price tag on a child's head. We now have a placement, Dodo, who is four years old.
