is adopting a child from United States of America

Welcome to our adoption journey! Adoption has been on our hearts for several years now, with serious discussions about moving forward beginning mid-2015. Shortly after our youngest turned one, we began the home study process and our journey officially started. We haven’t looked back since!

Our decision to adopt essentially boils down to this truth: Because of love, God adopted us, and so, because of love, we adopt.

We believe that in a perfect world, families would be whole and safe, all children would feel wanted and cherished, and parents would have the financial, emotional and physical resources to provide for their children. But we live in a broken world where hurt and loneliness are ever-present. We are inserting ourselves into the broken places and believing that God can create beauty from brokenness, knowing that we are able and willing to love and care for a child, no matter the reason for their adoption, as if that child came from our own flesh.

And what hope we have to offer as Christians, who know intimately the power of adoption! For we were once slaves to the law, broken sinners, lost and searching for wholeness, but we have been adopted as sons and daughters of God. We have been made whole and can rest in the security of who we are and whose we are. What a joyous truth we get to offer to all our children, but especially our children who from birth are intimately aware of the loss and brokenness of this world.

It reminds us of the beauty of stained glass - how broken, jagged pieces come together to form a beautiful, whole masterpiece. What would happen if we gathered up the broken pieces of these uncertain times and together created something beautiful?

We’ve learned that parenting is about community. Bringing children into your home and raising them is just not possible without it. Our greatest blessing is the community we get to do life with, both near and far, and it’s this community that has given us the confidence to step out in faith and open ourselves up to the unknown that comes with adoption. The joy we get to experience as parents and the beauty in this adoption journey are made possible through your prayer, encouragement and support. For that we are eternally grateful.

A mosaic consists of thousands of little stones. Some are blue, some are green, some are yellow, some are gold. When we bring our faces close to the mosaic, we can admire the beauty of each stone. But as we step back from it, we can see that all these little stones reveal to us a beautiful picture, telling a story that none of these stones can tell by itself. That is what our life in community is about. Each of us is like a little stone, but together we reveal the face of God to the world. - Henri Nouwen

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. -Ephesians 2:10
