My adoption journey

My adoption journey began over eight years ago. I have always wanted children, but I wanted to be married before having children. After my husband and I got married in 2006, we started trying right away. We struggle the first few years but then I got pregnant, due to fibroids I had a miscarriage. I was told by the doctor that I had fibroids that were pressing on my uterus. He stated because of the location of the fibroids and the size of it he would have to remove my uterus with the fibroids. I called my family as soon as I left the doctor's office in the parking lot of the hospital crying, I said to pray with me that my uterus will not be removed. We were all in agreement, a few months later I had the surgery and my uterus was intact.
Ten months after the surgery I got pregnant again, twelve weeks later I lost the pregnancy due to my uterus being weakened to hold the pregnancy. After going through many treatments, vitamins regimen, taking injection in my stomach, taking all sorts of medications, I decided I had enough. I said to myself there’s too many children in the world that need a parent, a home, and love we can provide that. I can love a child that did not come out of my worm that’s when my journey began.
I wanted to adopt a child from the country I was born from because there are many children in Liberia without parents, no food, no proper medication, the poverty is very great there especially after the war. I want to give a child the opportunity to experience life.
While my mother was in Liberia in 2018 a one-year-old child was given to her. My mom called me to tell me about the child I said I want the child, I will talk to my husband so we can start the process, before we could start the process the child died from Malaria. The family didn’t have money to take the child to the hospital to get proper care. I was crushed and disappointed. Several babies were found for my husband and I but things didn’t work out. Some the mother’s changed their mind, others died before the age of one some were used for witchcraft. I was fearful and scare for the next child.
March 2020 my aunt was given a child who the family didn’t want because they had seven other children and they did not want extra mouth to feed. The father gave the mother money to get an abortion but fear of her dying from the abortion she returns home.
Her husband left the home until she got rid of the baby. Her mother told her to go to the village and have the baby their and to leave the baby in the village. After she had the baby she returned to the city with the baby, she ran into my cousin, she told my cousin she didn’t want the baby and she was taking the baby back to the village. She knew the life span of the baby may be short in the village so my cousin said to her we want the baby and that’s how I found my baby. I feel like I was chosen for this child and she was chosen for me. I fell in love before I met her in the video chat. At two months I met my baby in a video chat on WhatsApp’s. I was completely overwhelmed with love and joy. I couldn’t stop talking about her to my family, friends, and colleagues. But fear of losing her came crushing over me because of funding’s to begin the process.
