Hi! We are the Nic and Susannah Sims and we have taken a lot of time to think and pray about the future of our family and we have decided to add to our family through adoption! We were blessed with 3 biological children from 2013-2015; while we have decided it is best to be done having biological children, we are deeply hopeful that we will be able to offer a forever home to a child and in turn be able to welcome that child’s family into our lives.
For the last 3 years we have been foster parents and we have had the joy and honor to welcome and parent a total of 8 children in our home during that time. We have been able to love and support their families, even after they went home! It is because of this experience that we have learned how important the biological family is to a child and it is our desire to pursue an open adoption so that both the child and their families are able to maintain a lifelong relationship with each other. As a family we want to continue to draw the circle of our family wider and we have found our hearts have an endless capacity to love. While we would love to continue to be foster parents, we also desire to bring a forever child into our family. Our time with children in care has allowed us to have a variety of children with special needs ranging from autism to down syndrome and we have learned that we are capable and desire to parent children with higher needs.
Susannah and I have been married for 11 years and we have 3 incredible children and 1 dog, Penny. Our children are Violet (8), Declan (7), Sawyer (6), and they are so excited to welcome a new child into our family! Nic is the Worship and Technical Director at our amazing church here in Kalamazoo, Michigan and we are so blessed to be surrounded by an amazing community that supports us beyond our wildest dreams! Susannah is a stay-at-home mom currently and is very active in supporting other moms in our local area as well as advocating for child in care and their families. We recently bought a new 4 bedroom home with a huge lot in our dream neighborhood! We have an incredible lot that is almost an acre (our dog and children love exploring it)! Susannah has been busy painting and renovating to make this home our own. When we are not at work or school our family can almost always been found outside. Our children love hiking, swimming, exploring, camping, etc. We have and use memberships to the local zoo, state parks, nature center, children’s science museum, etc. on a weekly basis! We have an amazing local library that is always the highlight of our week with all their engaging activities, programs, and story times.
Since we are a family with a single income raising this kind of money can be tricky! Adoptions are incredibly expensive, but we know that since God has called us to this, he will provide the funds for us to bring a child home. The greatest thing you can do for us moving forward is PRAY! Pray for our family, pray for the child that we hope to welcome, and most of all pray for the family that is looking to make an incredibly selfless and difficult choice.
