is adopting a child from Korea (Republic of)

We are excited to announce that we will be adopting our son from South Korea! Heejin and I have felt called by God to adopt a child ever since we got married. In fact, we were planning on starting the process before our first child Lydia was even born. But then Lydia was born… then Chloe… and fast forward 7 years, we decided the time is now.

Before I get into our need, I’ll tell you a little bit about where we are in the process. The entire process takes approximately eighteen months. We have completed all the paperwork for our home study and have been interviewed by the social worker from the home study agency. We are now currently waiting for our child match! After we get matched, it will take around ten months to get custody of our son.

It’s really difficult for me to ask for help, but we could use it. Our adoption expense is estimated to be around $45,000, and we’ve already put in about $9,000 of our own money. We are asking our friends and family to prayerfully consider being a part of our journey. It doesn’t have to be financially either. We absolutely need and are totally thankful for any prayers and words of encouragement.

Why are we adopting? Like I mentioned earlier, it really is a calling. It’s not so much that we want more children. We are totally content with the two precious daughters God has given us so far. But we truly believe that God has a special love for children. It breaks our hearts to think that there are so many children out there that do not have a family. We firmly believe that God calls us to care for orphans and to love them as our own

Why South Korea? Well, the answer is simple. Heejin is Korean and spent the first 28 years of her life there. I’m half Korean and lived there for many years. Both of our parents still live in Korea. We felt a special connection with South Korea and also believe we are well-equipped to love and care for a Korean child. Our son will likely be 18 months or older when he joins us, and we believe it will be much easier for him to be adopted into a family that speaks his language, eats the same food as him, and visits Korea often

We prayerfully ask you to consider supporting us through this journey. And again, please do not feel pressured or obligated to support us financially. Your prayers and words of encouragement are everything to us. Thank you!
