Caylee Swanson

is adopting a child from United States of America

Thanks so much for all of the support you have shown us over the last two weeks since we announced our adoption!

Because we didn’t get to share with you yet, we wanted to let you know why our hearts are for adoption. The care for the widow and the orphan is something that we are called to very directly in scripture, and for us God has shown that it means we are to bring a child into our home. We are excited to be adding a child to our family, but also building a relationship with a birth family as well. We are so thrilled that they have chosen life for their child and hope to be able to walk through life with them moving forward.

Adoption is a long and complicated process and while we have made many steps, we still have a lot to go. We have our home study done and are working with our adoption consultant to move towards getting matched. Hopefully soon we will be able to tell all of you about our match!

While being long and complicated, adoption is also expensive! Our adoption is probably going to cost about $50,000 (insert gasp here!) That is a lot of money! But God is so faithful! Part of the reason why there is such a high sticker price on adoption is because it is of the upmost importance that it is done ethically and in a way that is Christ honoring. Ethical adoptions require more birth mother counseling, more support structures, and more resources from the adoption agency to truly make sure the mother’s needs are being met. And like anything in life, that all comes with a price tag J

Currently we have about $28,000 for our adoption. God has been showing off in how he has been providing on our journey. We have saved $12,000 through some crazy circumstances that just show that this is God’s timing. We also have access to a $13,800 adoption tax credit that will help offset the costs. In addition to those sources, we have received some very generous gifts from our immediate families that are helping to get us well on our way!

If you can do math, you can see we need to raise just over $20,000 to close the gap! While that is a lot, we have seen God showing off already, and completely trust that he is going to continue to do so! Currently, this is our biggest hurdle to our adoption.

This is where we are asking for our friends and family to help. We know that not everyone is called to bring an adopted child into their home. We do believe that every person is called to help care for the orphan though. We know that through our network of friends and family God can move mountains and we can all work together to live out our call to care for the orphan. So we are asking for your help. Pray about how God might be asking you to give and then act on that J Know that no gift is too small! We know that we serve a God who still performs miracles and we anticipate a loaves and fishes kind of showing with the gifts we receive from you all.

Thank you for taking the time to follow our journey, for praying with us, and for helping us close the financial gap that is keeping us from bring our sweet baby home!

Love,

Blake, Caylee, and Lucy
