Introducing Adalynn Sue Birchmier,
On May 7th, 2024, Caleb and I were contacted and informed that a birth mother had her baby and decided she wanted to place her for adoption with US! While this was very exciting, it was also a lot to soak in all at once. To make the adoption happen we had to immediately wire $50,000 for legal fees, placement fees, attorney fees, medical bills for mom, care for baby, etc. While we spent time in the hospital Judy was informed by her employer that adoption was no longer covered under paid FMLA and that because she did not physically give birth to her and that she would be required to take unpaid leave. As you can imagine this caused a lot of unimaginable stress and increased the financial burden.
In total, we have paid nearly $70,000 in adoption-related costs. Unfortunately, we do not qualify for many grants. While we do qualify for some federal tax relief, it only covers a 1/4th of the expenses we have paid. This is why we have set a goal of $5,000 to help ease the financial burden that often overwhelms adoptive parents. If you feel led to make a 100% tax-deductible donation to our adoption fund, we will post updates on exactly how the money is used, like paying for legal fee's, placement fees, care for baby and more. Funds are given directly to the attorney and allocated accordingly.
We had so many gracious family and friends who donated baby supplies to us, that there is not a lot left that we need. This is why we have chose to set up a campaign to help ease the financial burden.
By supporting us in this process, you will become part of the community we hope to build around Adalynn. Thank you for being apart of her journey.
