Chris and I have been married for 16 years and have 3 wonderful sons; Joey 19, Caidon 16, and Braxton 15. Twelve years ago I met my friend and her daughters. She was a single mom and I have been helping her raise her daughters since day one. Her youngest daughter gave birth to baby J in 2019. At 3 weeks old we began caring for baby J on the weekends so she could “have a break”. As my work schedule changed and I had more days off during the week we began caring for baby J 3-4 days a week. In February 2022, she called me and said that she was losing her apartment and would be homeless and that her mental state was not in a place to take care of baby J and asked if he could live with us until she was stable. Of course we said yes and went and picked him up. In June 2022, she called me and said she wanted to be honest with me and told me that she didn’t want to be a mom, that she felt more like a sister or an aunt to him. As much as this was hard to hear I gave her praise for recognizing and accepting that truth and having the courage to say the words. She asked at that point if we would be willing to do an open adoption. She said she wants him with people who love him that would allow her to still be apart of his life. Of course we agreed, we absolutely love this boy just like one of our own and would give him the world. And that brings us here. Adoption is a wonderful thing but with adoption comes attorneys, fees, paperwork, home studies, background checks, court appearances and so much more. And all this takes money, and tons of money we do not have. So we are here asking for help.
