Hello, everyone! We are the Cagles, and we are adopting!
Since our little boy was a toddler, we have wanted to open up our home to a brother or sister for him through adoption. The journey to adoption officially began for us over 5 years ago. Our first agency closed its adoption office. Then, we started with Cherokee Nation and OKDHS just as COVID turned the world upside down and put our plans on hold. When things settled, we had over a year as a waiting family and experienced many disappointments. We were extremely discouraged and began to wonder if we just weren't meant to build our family through adoption. So, we closed our home and took a break.
Earlier this year, we felt drawn back to adoption. We opened back up with Cherokee Nation, but we still felt that we needed to explore other options. We found a wonderful local agency and were able to begin working on the requirements of a private home study. Through that study, we were also referred to an adoption attorney that could help match as well. We are now done with all requirements and just waiting for the call from either office. More than ever, we feel that there is a great chance we will finally be able to bring a child into our family through adoption. Though this path is more likely to be successful, it also comes with more significant financial obligations. We are working to save, apply for grants, and find other financing, but any help would be an extreme blessing to us.
We are a waiting family with a private agency and with an attorney that does adoption matching. According to the estimated costs we have been given, we will need $10,000-15,000 to cover agency fees, legal fees, and related costs. None of these costs are due until we are matched with a birth mother or receive placement, so we are working to be financial prepared for that moment.
