Alyssa Cantrell

is adopting a child from United States of America

In July 2020, Josh and I began speaking about the desire to grow our family. Josh and I had our first two children when we were younger, and he was in the Marine Corps, so he missed a great portion of my pregnancies and many of the “firsts” associated with each child. Lylah Kate met her dad at 54 days old as he was in Afghanistan for 7 months prior to her birth. When praying about extending our family, we thought that it would be an easy venture because we had no problems getting pregnant with Lylah Kate and Sawyer. After several months of trying and praying, we began to seek medical advice from an OBGYN. My doctor was proactive, started treating my PCOS and unexplained infertility right away. Medication after medication, labs and testing all left me heartbroken and in crushed spirits. Month after month we tried with no success. 13 months into this journey, we decided to have an exploratory procedure to see if there were any internal factors that were causing this infertility. Waking up from the surgery, I was told that due to a medical error that occurred in a prior surgery, I was left unable to have children. An additional surgery was completed to attempt to fix what was done prior. After so many failed attempts, over an almost 3-year span, I vividly remember calling Josh, after an appointment that we talked about IVF, and he reminded me of our calling; a calling that was spoken into our lives in Jamaica years prior. In the middle of the hardest times of life, it is easiest to wonder where God is, however He is always working all things together for our good. Looking back now, I am fully aware that God, in His sovereignty, could have stopped all the hardships and allowed me to become pregnant but, in His provision, He allowed this to happen to temper our hearts to adoption—a call that we had so long ago. It’s only through and by God that we arrive at the destination He calls us to; we are just called to remain faithful and persevere! He will move the mountains on our behalf, “and nothing will be impossible for us!” Matthew 17:20. We have started the process of completing our home study and are anxiously awaiting to see God’s plan unfold for our family. We want to be a family that never asks, “should we go?” but “if not us, then who?”. So that is our commitment to God, to each other and to our family; to walk boldly into God’s calling and providence for our lives.

If you feel led to help us on this journey, we love and appreciate you! There is a big financial piece to adopting through a private agency but, we know that God will supply all our needs. Even if you cannot help financially, fervent prayer would mean the absolute world to us! Thank you for your support and we cannot wait to see how God unveils His majesty and sovereignty through this journey!
