We are so excited to announce that we are Adopting!
As some of you may know, we were starting to try for a baby in 2020. Unfortunately, in 2020 Sarah caught COVID-19 while working on the frontlines as a medical provider. This first strain of the virus was very aggressive and caused a very rare brain complication in which the vein letting blood out of her skull became stenosed and narrow. This led to a back build of pressure in her brain causing debilitating headaches, visual changes, fatigue, weight gain, and nausea. We are very blessed that the top neurosurgeon in the world for this condition was able to help her feel much better. Unfortunately, the medication she has to take is not safe for pregnancy. Although the loss of our ability to start our family the traditional way was devastating, we see this as an opportunity to do good in this world by giving a loving home to a child in need.
When we embarked on our adoption journey, we had no idea that the average cost of adoption was around $35,000-45,000 especially when we were still paying for Sarah's expensive neurosurgery and running our small business. This is why we have set up a goal of $25,000 to help the financial burden that often overwhelms adoptive parents. These funds go directly from Adopttogether to our not-for-profit adoption agency to help our birth mother with funds to ensure that she has a safe place to live and has access to health care. We fell in love with our adoption agency for many reasons but especially because they provide so many services for the birth parents both pre and post adoption. The adoption is not treated as a transaction but instead as a wonderful lifelong relationship.
We hope that by inviting you into this process you will see yourself as part of the community we hope to build around our child as he/she grows up.
