We have moved forward from adoption.
We haven't had an update in a while and this year has been full of ups and downs. We have had several instances of knowing our profile was being shown to specific birth mothers and we had two separate occasions where we had phone calls with birth mothers. Most recently, we had committed to an adoption opportunity for a little boy earlier this summer. We spent the summer texting with his Mom and learning more about her life and dreams. While we were waiting for all the paperwork to be in place, we grew our relationship with his Mom and learned how much she loved him and how great a mom she really was and is. Ultimately, she decided to not move forward with her adoption plan and she decided to parent her beautiful baby boy. This was very bittersweet for us as we know she is a great parent and will continue to provide a loving home for her son and we were obviously saddened for us and our situation.
We took the time after finding this out to reflect on our journey and all we've learned about adoption and ourselves along the way. We had a lot of challenging conversations with each other and took time to pray for wisdom to know what is right for us and our family. All that being said, we have decided to move forward from adoption and we are no longer an active family with our agency. We feel this is the right thing for us to do and we do not regret having been on this journey over the last two years. We have learned so much and have felt so much love from our communities. We don't know what is next for us, but we look forward to spending time with our nieces and nephews and fulling living into being the cool Aunt and Uncle.
We cannot express our gratitude to you all enough. Your love, prayers, and support have meant the world to us. The funds we had raised helped to cover all of our non-refundable fees with being an active family and that truly helped provide some comfort to us over the last two years. We still believe adoption can be a beautiful thing and have learned so much about the complexities and nuances of adoption while on this journey. Again thank you for everything!
With love,
Justin and Kayla
