Samuel and Selah Godfrey

are adopting a child from Liberia

Meet rejoice

This picture was taken when she ran to me on my first visit in 2 years. We FaceTime often and she came running when they said “mommy is here!”. She cries every time I have to tell her goodbye. Hopefully the next time I come to Liberia, it will be to bring her forever home.

Background… 3 years ago, I received a call from my cousin in Liberia about Baby Rejoice. She was 3 months old and her mother was just a teenager who did not know how to take care of herself or provide for her own needs. She abandoned Rejoice at birth. Her birth father vanished as well. As a result, Baby Rejoice suffered, was malnourished and neglected. My husband and I have a heavy heart for children like this and started to pray, asking the Lord for direction on how to help this child. Immediately, we started paying for a caretaker, hospital bills, and nutritious food for Rejoice. Unfortunately the caretaker was not doing well with her. I realized this when I visited Liberia and met Rejoice myself a few months later. It was so disheartening that I could not bear, so I personally took Rejoice from her and starting caring for her while I was there. Fortunately, I met my mission sister Pauline and her Husband Nelson Dahn who were helping provide for orphaned Children like Rejoice in their children’s home called Children’s Aid Liberia (CAL). I spoke with them and arranged to have Rejoice stay with them at CAL. We have been supporting Rejoice from America and have watched her grow from a malnourished, deprived infant into a beautiful and healthy little girl. (We are supporting 29 other children as well in the CAL home which has become Hope of Blessing International.)

At first we thought God was telling us to find Rejoice a family to bring her home from Liberia, but after two years of praying and talking to several friends about her, it seems like every door was closed for this sweet child. After praying and waiting for God to lead us in the right direction on how help this sweet girl, God has made it very clear to us that Rejoice is to be part of our family! We are so excited for His leading and can’t wait to have Rejoice home.

Adoption from Liberia is very expensive. We can’t do this alone. We are respectfully asking for your prayers over this situation and any financial support you can offer.

$35,000 is a big number. But we know with God - and a community of support - it is possible!

Thank you for reading her story. May you be blessed and let love reign.
