Lars and Apollo are going to be big brothers!!!

Terri and Megan are officially adopting and have a live profile right now! What that means for us is that at any time we could be matched with a person who feels that adoption is the right choice for them, and believe that we would be the best parents for the child/children. We are open to a child(ren) of any race, sibling sets, or any type of visible or invisible disability. This is very exciting for us, it also means that right now there are many unknowns.

Why are we adopting? Fun fact, Terri and Megan discussed wanting to have children on their first date, it was something that was very important to both of them! We are so thrilled to be able to pursue this now and grow our family. We decided on adoption for a few different reasons. First, neither of them had a desire to physically carry a child. When discussing other options for having children, surrogacy was also not something either of them wanted to pursue as there are so many children being born that need a home. Discussion of these thoughts led to us landing on adoption, and specifically choosing the agency we are working with due to their LGBTQ+ friendly beliefs and actionable advocacy for our queer community.

Why are we doing a fundraiser? The adoption process is expensive, more so than we ever thought as we began this process. We do have some money saved up to support our family growth and are thankful that our work has a program that will reimburse expenses up to $10,000. That being said, we have decided to also pursue asking our community for support as well. If we are to meet the fundraising goal set here with the reimbursement from work we would still be personally responsible for over half of the cost to adopt in its entirety. Some of the expenses that this money covers includes our application fees, background checks, home study licensing, agency fees, legal and court fees, placement costs etc. If anyone is interested in seeing a specific cost breakdown please reach out as we are more than happy to share this independently, as our goal is to be as transparent as possible. We are happy to answer any questions or curiosities you may have. Additionally, the Adopt Together platform allows for donations to be taxed deductible and we feel this could be of benefit for folks who may be interested and able to support us.

We are then going to add each photo to a family collage for our nursery so that our child will know the community that helped support their joining our family.
