Daria & Bo Griffith
are adopting a child from United States of America
We want to adopt for several reasons. First of all, it’s something that has been on Daria’s heart for as long as she can remember – predating even her marriage to Bo! We both have always wanted at least 2 kids, and are immensely grateful for the ability to have conceived and given birth to Baxter and Arlo. However our family actually started in 2019, before either of the boys were born, with our daughter Sage. Tragically, at the end of Daria’s first trimester we found out that Sage no longer had a heartbeat, and Daria endured a D&C a few days later. That shocking and unexpected loss tainted our following two healthy pregnancies with Baxter and Arlo with extreme anxiety, elevating into postpartum anxiety and depression after Baxter’s birth. Daria also had pre-eclampsia during both pregnancies with the boys, causing dangerously high blood pressure and a trip to the emergency room when Arlo was just two days old since Daria’s liver levels and blood pressure were so elevated. It is not physically or mentally wise for Daria to carry another pregnancy due to her history of pre-eclampsia and postpartum depression and anxiety. Thankfully, we feel abundantly blessed to have the long-held strong desire to adopt, and the resources to be able to do so.
Additionally, Bo was a pedestrian in a crosswalk on a walk signal when he was hit by a car last June, leaving him with a severely damaged hip and traumatic brain injury. Bo was in an intensive outpatient rehabilitation program for the following six months, received a hip repair surgery, and is working on acclimating to life with neurological deficits to his memory and executive functioning, as well as regular migraines and impaired mobility due to his hip injury, so was out of work for nine months following the accident. Prior to his accident he worked full-time as a federal criminal defense attorney, while Daria works part-time as a Communications and Public Relations Manager for a non-profit organization – meaning our family relied heavily on Bo’s income, while Daria plays a substantial role in childcare for our two kids (ages 4 and 2). Bo’s medical team is highly optimistic about his recovery and we are continuing to try new treatment programs to hopefully find long-term relief. His doctor is not concerned about this accident impairing his ability to parent our children or any future adopted child, and if anything this accident has grown our empathy and resilience amidst adversity. However, this has caused quite the financial setback since we didn’t receive Bo’s income for 9 months, and also have substantial medical bills to cover. We still feel unwavering in our desire and commitment to move forward with adoption. We had a solid amount accrued in savings for our planned adoption, but have unfortunately been pulling from it each month to help off-set Daria’s part-time paycheck and cover our mortgage and credit card bills, along with Bo’s medical bills, leaving us less financially prepared for our adoption than we were before the accident. Bo’s accident hit us all really hard – physically for Bo, but also emotionally and financially as well. We are praying that it doesn’t also delay our chance at adoption.
