As you may already know, we are in the process of adopting our first child! We are so excited about this opportunity and cannot wait for it to happen. Our road to parenthood has been a complicated one. A few years ago, we discovered that we are both carriers of a genetic disease and that having biological children would be extremely risky. Although we are both perfectly healthy, our children would have a high risk of being born with a fatal disease. We decided not to take the risk, and to pursue parenthood through domestic infant adoption instead.
We were matched with a birth family in September and our bundle of joy is due in February! We are so very grateful for everyone's prayers and support during this journey. The outpouring of community support means the world to us!
Although we are excited to become parents, we had little prior knowledge of the expenses that we would incur along the way. The average infant adoption in the United States costs $43,000 or more. To date, we have invested about $17,000 in the process. This year we encountered an obstacle when our agency closed. After lots of research and a consultation, we hired an AAAA Attorney (specialized in adoption) over the summer when a spot became available. We were provided with a cost estimate and we will be raising our fundraiser total to try and raise more money for our adoption. Please don't feel obligated to give more, we appreciate everything!
We feel that a child joining our family through adoption would be a tremendous gift. We are extremely grateful for any donation as it will help us make this dream become possible!
